When we see ourselves reflected in the books we read, we feel seen! Books are a window to the world – what a child sees through that window has a profound impact on how he or she perceives the world – it tells them what’s important, and what matters. Seeing themselves in that world establishes them as people who matter and establishes their sense of place in society.
Growing up there were no books that represented my background. There were no picture books in my parents native language. I love seeing this picture of a little girl reading my book as it brings me such joy. It reminds me of myself as a child when I would run through the library, isle after isle, rack after rack, trying to find a book that resembles me. A book that I could lay down with and read before bed time.
